Despite having a shop full of exciting products to review, it was easy to choose the first one to write about. The awesome Women’s SingleTrack Jacket from Endura.
This is my jacket of choice when going for a ride when you need trustworthy protection from the elements. I am writing about the women’s jacket, but the men’s is the same jacket, just sizing and the cut are different.
Women’s Endura Single Track Jacket
The jacket is made of a fully seam sealed 2.5 layer material with a rating of 10,000, What this means is that the material is both waterproof and breathable. The rating 10,000 in very technical terms means that you could place a tube with 1” diameter over the material and fill it up to 10,000 mm (38.2 feet) before it would leak. In terms of breathability it is measured by 10,000 grams of water vapour passing through 1 meter square of the fabric to the outside in a 24 hour period. As you might have guessed, the higher the number then, the more waterproof and breathable the fabric is.
In non-technical terms this means that it is going to keep you dry in the wet for those rides lasting a few hours! However if you are thinking of riding for long full days out in adverse weather conditions up in Scotland or embarking on touring adventures for days on end in wet climates then you might wish to consider the MT500 waterproof jacket which has 3 layers and rating of 18000.
To put it in perspective, I live and ride in the lakes and I use the SingleTrack Jacket.
Women’s Endura SingleTrack Jacket
There is a reflective panel on the back which, although looks small bright, and on the front the logo reflects. The hood is big enough to go over your helmet if the weather gets so bad! If not, the hood has a roll away pocket under the collar. The cuffs are adjustable and the waist has a pull draw string so the jacket will fit perfectly and keep the wet out.
It has clever features as you would expect to see on a hiking jacket, such as under arm vents. On my last ride, it was freezing temperatures so I wore the jacket right from setting off. As we began our first climb my temperature was raised so I lowered the front zip, then the under-arm zips. These really help to regulate your heat. I took the jacket off for the hike a bike, but as soon as we stopped, threw it back on as a wind breaker. I then kept it on for the rest of the ride. It fits so well and whatever your position on the bike it doesn’t ride up, it stays on and feels snug.
The front has two side pockets and a chest pocket with a media port. Just a word of caution, the chest pocket is seam sealed, but the side pockets aren’t so in a heavy down pour anything inside those two pockets, might get wet.
What is more, I love the style!
There are three colourways for the 2016/17 season, blue, red and purple, in sizes ranging from XXS to XL. I am a size 10 and I opted for the medium , but I like baggy loose fitting clothes. Even so, the cut is fairly slim so despite being a slightly bigger size on me there was no flapping about. Even on the fast downs the jacket felt sleek.
As said I have only worn the women’s Single Track Jacket, but Dan assures me that the men’s version is just as awesome!
With an RRP of £99.99, my belief is that is it the perfect riding jacket.
